Overview:
Flying into such interesting cities as San Francisco & Los Angeles, and with the bright lights of Las Vegas within easy reach too, California is great for a Ski & Sightsee or Ski & Sun holiday. The non-stop flights to Frisco & LA or, if you take the short second flight to Reno, the short transfer to Lake Tahoe’s resorts, make this state one of the easier places to reach. The mountains get a huge amount of snow most seasons and prices are low. Skiing in California has its drawbacks (see below) so we recommend it particularly to people who want to combine skiing with a few days sightseeing or who want to keep the price down. Families like the low prices, reasonable temperatures & altitude and easy journey.

Booking Snippet:
California is particularly good if you wish to book late, especially for a peak period. You can usually get a flight into Frisco or LA long after those into Denver or Vancouver have either sold out or have become a silly price due to low availability.

Ski Manager:
“I particularly like South Lake Tahoe (Heavenly) as a base for skiing a different little resort each day for a week on the interchangeable Lake Tahoe lift pass. And the day trip to Squaw Valley by paddlesteamer across the lake is a must. Mammoth has one of the best all round ski areas in North America. Both resorts lack character, are packed at weekends and don’t expect Colorado’s fluffy dry Champagne Powder. California is more like Europe in terms of snow quality.”
