The thought of skiing New Mexico doesn't conjure up visions of powder runs, but it should! Taos Ski Valley is one the best kept secrets in the US. The mountain offers a great variety of terrain for all levels of skiing as well as an impressive cultural and artistic history that few other ski areas can offer. It's a unique blend that permeates both the ski area and the charming, characterful town. The snow here tends to be that light, fluffy stuff that we love. Experts, intermediates, and beginners will all find what they are looking for here- good skiing without the crowds. Taos is still a skiing only mountain, so if you are an avid snowboarder, you need to go elsewhere or take a break from the board to be on this mountain.

2005/6 was a freak poor season but normally Taos has one of the most consistently good snow records in the business. 2006/7 was back to business as usual-fantastic conditions. 2000-2005 Taos had the best snow record in America.

Incredible terrain, good for all abilities but one of the best in the world for advanced skiers
Charming adobe town with lots to do off the slopes
The best place in the business for advanced skiers to go to ski school to learn to move up to expert level
Great two centre with Santa Fe, Durango, Telluride or Crested Butte
Good for late bookers at popular times, flights into Albuquerque are available long after Denver has sold out

25 minutes drive from town to ski area
No snowboarding allowed
No non-stop flights
No transfers (car-hire compulsory)

You can stay out at the resort in one of a small selection of hotels or you can stay in the town (18 miles away), surrounded by great shops, art galleries, restaurants, and museums. Taos is unequalled in its combination of culture with the sport of skiing making it a unique destination with all the class and sophistication of an Aspen or Sun Valley. We recommend staying in the town of Taos and having a car-hire so you can explore everything that is available to you. For example, the interesting town of Sante Fe is close by, as are several other smaller resorts that offer great beginner and intermediate terrain. Taos is also a great two-centre option with the resorts in southern Colorado.

We have rates at a good range of properties in Taos. Let us know what you need, and we will advise on the best options for you.

All in all, Big Sky is a great destination for those who are looking for good skiing and a nice spot to hang with friends and family. And of course, SkiarUS can get you there this winter!
